I’m currently thinking of using the Furioso rules for playing Italian Wars games, but I’m a little puzzled as to how Halberdiers and other forms of DoppelSoldner are best organised under the rules.
On page 6 it says that players may elect to have one stand of Halberdiers or similar per 4 stands of pike, which would then operate as per the rules for DoppelSoldner on page 22 which seems straightforward enough. However, the subsequent Army lists limit the number of such bases to one per Pike Block irrespective of the number of pike stands in the block, unlike the availability of Skirmishers. This is contradictory.
is there a particular reason for limiting the use of Halberdiers/DoppelSoldner in this way? Would it be detrimental to the game to allow larger Pike Blocks to have access to more than 1 such base, albeit limiting the effect by using only 1 per Turn?

Hello John. Thanks for your post. I play as per the rules for Skirmishers for DoppelSoldner. Using effect one per turn.
I can ask the author if you wish.

Thanks Gavin. I think I’ll do the same and see how it goes.

We use 2 stands of halberds/swordsmen and if they win the contest we leave 1 base onto remind us. After all , we like the figures and it’s nice to put them on the table.
