As part of my planning for the new year I am starting to plan a Flintloque purchase. Just a small set of figures to be able to try out the game and see if I want to expand into larger games perhaps using Sharp Practice.
I was thinking of getting the Bier and Bones book since I really want to build a force of the Dogman kingdom of Pudigrochumsberg.
If I wanted to use the Elves or Orcs in my game I am correct that I would need the War in Catalucia book?
I am going to buy some Line troops and some Light Infantry. Am I going to want to get an Officer and a colour bearer and musician as well?
And what is a good number of troops to get a good game? I know there is a starter set with ten models but that seems a bit small to me

Hello Zac,
Welcome to the group and thanks for your post. Here is my input on your questions.
1. Each game book (5025,5026,5028) covers a theatre of the wars with the Grapeshotte expansion (5027) used in all the game books. So yes to play in Catalucia you would need War in Catalucia for the setting.
2. I cannot comment on Sharp Practise as I do not play it but Flintloque is character narrative skirmish and Slaughterloo is mass battle so there is a gap between them for a medium encounter level set of rules if you wish.
3. You need to name a section commander in Flintloque but it need not be an officer, typically it is though. Standard Bearer and Musician are useful for bonuses but you can go without them. Most sets of the miniatures come with all three command types.
4. The 5024 Escape the Dark beginners set is just that, core intro with ten unique miniatures to learn the rules. The Shilling Starter Sets are more expensive but come with the full book plus twelve to sixteen miniatures. The game world is VAST in its choices so depending on which setting you choose you can expand in any direction. A full scenario in Flintloque I tend to write for about twenty figures a side, two sides but the max is about thirty a player before it bogs down.
Hope this assists.

Thanks Gavin. Very helpful. Still undecided about what book to get and what armies but I am currently leaning closer to getting the WoC book and then some Elves and a mix of Orca and Goblins. I think SSP001 would cover that selection of figs nicely.
Mike from the Meeples and Miniatures podcast wrote use some stats for Sharp Practice and it would really just be a stepping stone to building a Slaughterloo force. SH has about 40-60 minis a side which would just be two or three formations in Slaughterloo.

My pleasure. Yes that makes sense and the Catalucia shilling starter pack may well be the place to jump for you.
Mike does great work on that podcast. Yes, sounds like a middle point between character narrative skirmish and mass battle level. 60 miniature is three line units in Slaughterloo which is about half of one division with most players fielding one division a side for a typical game and three a side for a big battle.

GBS So it will take me a bit to work up to a divisional sized battle :-)

Yes as it is intended to. Narrative Skirmish and then all you have goes up to mass battle over time.
